In 2016, a Korean vocalist watched Crystal Lake play the Busan International Rock Festival. Ten years later he was announced as that band’s singer. Most of what happened in between happened in a Tokyo band called Prompts.

Busan to Tokyo

PK is Korean-born. By his own account, that Crystal Lake set was one of the biggest reasons he decided to move to Japan and keep making music. He has also said that he met Ryo Kinoshita, then Crystal Lake’s frontman, at the festival, and was told to get in touch when he reached Tokyo.

He arrived in 2018. Prompts had formed in Tokyo in 2012 and been through a run of lineup changes. That year it restarted with new members and PK at the front. The lineup is PK on vocals, Matsuno and Yasui on guitar, Piguri on bass and backing vocals, and Heaven on drums: a Japanese-Korean band working out of Tokyo.

The Prompts Records

The EP Magenta Smile came in 2019. The first album, Fracture, followed in 2022 on the American label Modern Empire, with guests including Kaito of Paledusk, Kyle Medina of Bodysnatcher and Ryo Kinoshita. The band signed to Australia’s Greyscale Records at the end of 2023, became the first Asian signing to Papercut Recordings in 2026, and released the seven-track EP Parasite Dream on 16 June 2026.

At home, Prompts played the first FRONTLINE FESTIVAL in 2023 and DEVILOOF’s DEVIFEST in 2026.

The Call

When John Robert Centorrino left Crystal Lake at the end of March 2026, the band needed a voice at short notice. PK stood in from April and sang the Australian dates in May. On 21 August 2026, Crystal Lake confirmed him as its permanent vocalist. Founding guitarist YD said his style fits the band and pushes the emotional side of its songs further.

He did not leave Prompts to do it. He fronts both.

Why It Matters

A fan becoming the singer of the band that changed his life is a good story anywhere. What gives this one weight is the order of events. He crossed a border, worked in a second language, and built his own band’s catalogue on three overseas labels first. The call came after that.
