The name is a mouthful, and the history is not simple either. SOLITUDE A SLEEPLESS NIGHTS has been a melodic metalcore band, then a different band with a different name, and then a metalcore band again.
The Band
SOLITUDE A SLEEPLESS NIGHTS is based in Tokyo and plays melodic metalcore. The constant members are the guitarist Gen Sunami, who also sings and writes the music, the guitarist Yoshiki Takagi, and the drummer Tasuku Shimizu.
The band’s own list of reference points tells you where it stands. It includes American metalcore bands such as August Burns Red, Texas in July and Phinehas, the British band While She Sleeps, and, from Japan, heaven in her arms.
2016 to 2019
The first music appeared in 2016: a free single, “Meteorlights,” and a demo EP, AGAIN&ALIVE. A second EP, OUR ENDS, followed in 2017.
Then the band went quiet. It announced its return in January 2019, with two people who had been helping out as support players becoming full members: a vocalist, Yoshiki Tamura, and a bassist, NORA.
The third EP, BEYOND CAUSALITY, came out on 17 March 2019. It was presented as the band’s return to the scene after a short break.
The Other Name
In 2021 the band changed course. It took on a new vocalist, Tayori, and a new name, Eversolitude, and released music that was described as post-hardcore, math rock and post-rock. That chapter has its own story.
The Return
In August 2024 the original name was back. A three-song EP, SET THE FIRE TO THE SUN, was released under it, and the band’s own description of itself by then was blunt: Japanese real metalcore.
A further release, INTO THE ENDLESS SOLITUDE, followed in 2026.
Why It Matters
Plenty of bands change style. Not many change their name to do it and then change it back. It suggests a group of musicians honest enough to admit which music they wanted to play, twice.
