JasonAndrew is a band, not a person. It is four people from Yokohama who started playing together in their first year of high school and did not stop.
Yokohama
All four members are from Yokohama, the port city just south of Tokyo. The guitarist and the bassist, who is also the singer, were classmates.
The band’s home is a venue called B.B.STREET. In an interview from 2020, guitarist Yusuke Takagi said the band was playing around ten shows a month, mostly there, with trips to Tokyo and beyond. That is a punishing schedule for anyone, and the band was being introduced as a student act at the time.
They have named older Yokohama bands as their influences, NUBO among them. This is a local tradition being handed down.
The Sound
The base is melodic hardcore. The announcement of the band’s album described its approach as classic melodic hardcore with other genres mixed in.
The Label and the Album
JasonAndrew is on IKKI NOT DEAD, the label that is home to HAWAIIAN6 and locofrank, two well-known names in Japanese melodic punk.
The first album, STATEMENT, came out on 4 December 2024, with ten songs. The tour for it began on 15 February 2025 at F.A.D in Yokohama and ran through the end of May.
One of its songs, “Close Your Eyes,” features Masa of View From The Soyuz, and was given a video in February 2025. Another JasonAndrew song, “3SHOT GUNZ,” features the band ReVERSE BOYZ.
The Company It Keeps
In 2026 the band was booked for an event run by Hanabie., on a bill with SiM. A melodic punk band on a metalcore band’s event says something about how mixed these bills have become.
Why It Matters
There is a kind of band that only a local scene can produce: formed at school, raised in one venue, taught by the bands a few years older. JasonAndrew is a clear example, and it has taken that upbringing to a national label.
Start with STATEMENT.
