AFTERVOID is not a band in the usual sense. It is one person’s next move. The person is Kenta Koie, the voice of Crossfaith.
The Start
Crossfaith suspended its activities in the summer of 2025, and later made the pause indefinite. On 8 February 2026, Koie announced AFTERVOID as a solo project. The first piece of music under the name was “RUNNING AWAY (Destruction Test Remix),” described in coverage of the launch as hard techno colliding with metal, with his voice and screams in the middle of it.
That is a reasonable summary of where he has always stood. Crossfaith was built on the meeting of electronics and metalcore. On that description, AFTERVOID keeps the same two ingredients.
The Releases
The first single proper, “EXITRANCE,” came out on 31 July 2026, with an official video.
Around it, Koie’s name has appeared on other people’s records. He is a guest on “KINTSUGI” by NOISEMAKER, credited as Koie from Crossfaith / AFTERVOID. He sings on “SAVIOR,” from coldrain’s album OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE, released on 25 September 2026.
The Stages
A new project usually starts in small rooms. This one did not have to.
AFTERVOID was on the bill of FRONTLINE FESTIVAL at Club Citta on 29 August 2026, the event run by Sable Hills. It was then named as the opening act for every date of coldrain’s Japanese tour for the new album.
The pattern is hard to miss. The people giving AFTERVOID its stages are the friends Koie has shared them with for years: coldrain, whose festival he sang at the day before he announced the project, and the bands of the generation that came up behind Crossfaith.
Why It Matters
When a well-known band stops, the singer’s next project is usually judged against the old one. AFTERVOID has avoided that by not trying to be Crossfaith with different members. It is openly one man’s work.
Start with “EXITRANCE,” then “RUNNING AWAY (Destruction Test Remix).”
