Every hardcore band needs a slogan. ReVERSE BOYZ has one nobody else would think of: NEONINJA HARDCORE.

The Band

ReVERSE BOYZ comes from the Kansai region, the area around Osaka. It is a six-piece, and it belongs to West Side Unity, a crew of Kansai hardcore bands.

The vocalist goes by Young Dio, comes from Sakai, the city just south of Osaka, and was in a band called Driving Quiet Numb before this one. The members came together the way hardcore bands usually do: they were all regulars at the same shows.

Hardcore With Rappers

What marks the band out is how freely it mixes hardcore with hip-hop. Its second album, NEONINJAZLiFE, has three rappers as guests: nom, rirugiliyangugili and WELL-DONE. One of its songs, “SLAM MONEY,” features WELL-DONE and was released ahead of the record.

The album itself arrived as a surprise. It was put out on 29 May 2025 with no build-up, twelve tracks long. The announcement described it as a further step in the band’s crossover style.

Hardcore and rap have been meeting in Japan for a long time. ReVERSE BOYZ treats the mix as normal, and writes songs with titles like “LFG!!” and “PoziNega 2000” to go with it.

The Company It Keeps

The band has opened for touring American hardcore bands, among them One Step Closer and Domain. In 2025 it played the spring edition of BLOODAXE FESTIVAL, Japan’s biggest hardcore festival.

It also gets around on other people’s records. ReVERSE BOYZ is the guest on “3SHOT GUNZ” by the Yokohama band JasonAndrew. Young Dio appears on Ride with Us, the 2025 album by the Fukuoka band universe last a ward.

Why It Matters

Hardcore can be a serious business. ReVERSE BOYZ is a reminder that it can also be funny without being a joke. The name on the banner is silly, the album came out of nowhere, and the band is on the bill of the country’s main hardcore festival.

Start with “SLAM MONEY,” then the rest of NEONINJAZLiFE.
