Few bands reinvent themselves as completely as Little Lilith did, and fewer come out the other side sounding this sure of themselves. They started as an emotional girls’ rock band. They became one of Japan’s girls’ djent bands: heavy, low-tuned, rhythmically sharp, and very deliberately dark.

From LeAnFlor to Little Lilith

The story begins with LeAnFlor, a project formed in 2018 around LILLY, a vocalist who had also played violin since elementary school, including in a local junior orchestra. Drummer YUKI joined in 2019. The turning point came in December 2021, when guitarist ERIKA and bassist SHIORI joined and the band turned hard toward loud rock, with rebellion and struggle as its themes. The four-piece that emerged — LILLY, ERIKA, SHIORI, YUKI — is the Little Lilith you hear now. LILLY, who handled violin parts on earlier songs, now writes the band’s music.

The Sound

The band’s own description is precise: cynical, surreal, stylish and doomy. In practice that means heavy riffs in the modern djent mould, weighted toward the low end, with melodic vocals catchy enough to cut straight through. The balance between crushing weight and a tune you can remember is the whole trick, and it’s why the djent label, usually attached to instrumental guitar-nerd music, fits a band this song-focused.

Taking It Abroad

Little Lilith didn’t wait for foreign listeners to find them. In 2023 the band toured Europe, playing Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium — an unusual step for a Japanese band at that stage, and a sign of how outward-facing this generation has become.

Retribution and RUIN

“Retribution” is the band’s signature song; it also titled the third EP, released in February 2025. The first full album, RUIN, followed on 10 December 2025 with eleven tracks, and BURRN!‘s coverage of the release showed the traditional metal press was paying attention.

Start with “Retribution,” then play RUIN in order. The title tells you where the album takes you, and the melodies make the descent worth it.
